- The blog can be used as a class portal to share each others work.
- A blog is also an online learning journey.
- It is a constructivist approach which is accessible.
- It means every child has a voice to contribute.
- A blog encourages a child to develop expertise in an area.
A blog can be used in many different ways, which makes it so useful.
One of my favourite ideas is to write a blog post as a different character.
For example, a post could be written by the hungry caterpillar about his week.
"I was very hungry this week. On Monday I had one red apple. On Tuesday I had two juicy pears..."
Another idea I liked was the idea of using it as a way of reviewing books. The whole class could contribute to one blog by reviewing what they've read and creating a database. This would be a good use of the 'tags' option to sort out the books into categories that the children thought of. These could be categories such as: 'funny', 'fiction', 'Roald Dahl', etc.
I think these examples are so good because they give children a good reason to write, so they will hopefully be much more motivated, and also as their work will be 'published' they will most likely try their hardest as everyone can see it.
Blogs can also be used by the school as an interactive newsletter, allowing parents to look at recent pictures and information and comment on them. I have included an example of one from a placement school of mine below:
